What Participants Say
“As a coordinator of social programs at the Maya Environmental Education and Research Center at Yucatan, Mexico, I have had the privilege to engage annually since 2015 with the Power of a Nickel Medical Outreach, as their hostess and logistics coordination. I look forward to these wonderful times where all is planned ahead and runs smoothly during each day. The medical team of practitioners is always comprised of the most delightful people, committed, compassionate, caring, with eyes that hug you. The group coordinators for Power of a Nickel have become my dear friends after many years of enjoying these medical missions. The setting in the Maya villages that we visit together is friendly and adequate to combine with nearby hotels and tourist zones in short commutes which makes it easier to provide the medical team with much-deserved comfort and rest after a long day providing care to many people. Here in the Yucatan, we will always be honored to host the next Power of a Nickel Medical Mission.”

“I have had the good fortune to participate in several Power of a Nickel trips. As a 4th year medical student, on my fourth trip with a PON team, I had a great opportunity to lead a student rotation for 2 weeks in Mexico. We were able to visit many of the communities we had served in the years prior, and it was very humbling to see how much the communities had grown. My most memorable moments include sharing stories with our patients, experiencing local traditions, and tasting delicious foods made fresh by community members!”
